Der berühmte Botaniker Carl von Linné, auch als Carolus Linnaeus bekannt,
hat den Röhrling 1753 als Erster gültig beschrieben, als Boletus subtomentosus
in Species Plantarum 2 auf S. 1178.

Danach hat der Pilz eine lange Strecke
durch die taxonomischen und nomenklatorischen Labyrinthe zurückgelegt,
