Mordecai Cubitt Cooke (1825-1914) war einer der bedeutendsten britischen Mykologen,
Er war Leiter der Royal Botanical Gardens in Kew und Herausgeber der Pilzzeitschrift Grevillea.
Diese Zeitschrift hat ihren Namen zu Ehren von Robert Kaye Greville (1794-1866).
Er veröffentlichte fast 300 Arbeiten auf dem Gebiet der Pilzkunde, meistens in seiner eigenen Zeitschrift.
Seine Hauptwerke: Handbook of British Fungi 1871, Mycographia seu Icones Fungorum 2 Bd. 1875/78 (Discomycetes), Illustrations of British Fungi 8 Bd., 1881-91 mit 1200 farbigen Pilztafeln, 1935).
Er arbeitete auch mit Lucien Quélet zusammen (Clavis Synoptica Hymenomycetum Europaeorum 1878).
